Creating Coyne’s First Business Website

Coyne’s Gastropub & Pantry is an award-winning gastropub located in Cill Chiaráin, Kilkieran, in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht overlooking Kilkerrin Bay.

Before working with Advanced Solutions, Coyne’s had never had a dedicated business website.

In fact, the team were not particularly interested in having one simply for the sake of being online. The website therefore needed to demonstrate genuine value while still feeling authentic to a business that had already built its reputation through its food, atmosphere, events and loyal customers.

We created a complete restaurant website that brought everything together in one place and gave Coyne’s room to develop digitally over time.

Project Overview

The initial objective was straightforward: give Coyne’s a professional online home that genuinely reflected the business.

The website presents the gastropub, food menu, artisan pantry, local products, events, awards, customer reviews, gallery, location and other practical visitor information.

Most importantly, it gave customers a direct route to interact with Coyne’s online.

That became increasingly significant after launch. The project developed from a first website into a reservation platform, event promotion tool and direct ticket sales channel.

The Challenge

Coyne’s already had something many businesses spend years trying to build: a strong identity.

The challenge was bringing that identity online without making the business feel overly corporate or turning the website into a generic restaurant template.

The design needed to reflect the rural Connemara location, Irish character, food, local produce and atmosphere while remaining practical for customers researching before a visit.

Preserve the Existing Character
The website needed to feel unmistakably like Coyne’s rather than simply looking like another restaurant website.

Bring Information Together
Menus, opening hours, events, location information and other important details needed one reliable online home.

Create a Direct Customer Journey
Customers needed an easier way to move from discovering Coyne’s to making a reservation or contacting the team.

Allow the Website to Grow
The platform needed enough flexibility to accommodate new requirements after launch.

Designing Around the Gastropub Experience

The visual direction uses Coyne’s existing character, imagery and surroundings as the foundation of the website.

Its waterfront location, food, interiors, local heritage and artisan pantry all form part of the presentation.

Restaurant and Location Imagery
Photography of the venue, surrounding landscape, food and interiors helps potential visitors understand the experience before arriving.

Food Menu
A dedicated menu area gives customers direct access to current dishes and restaurant information.

Artisan Pantry
The website gives the pantry its own identity alongside the gastropub, showcasing locally produced goods and other products available from Coyne’s.

Events and Entertainment
Upcoming concerts and the Coyne’s Unplugged series can be promoted directly through the website.

Awards and Recognition
The business’s awards, recommendations and other credentials reinforce the reputation Coyne’s had already established offline.

What the Client Said

The client’s feedback is particularly meaningful because Coyne’s started the project unsure whether it needed a website at all. After launch, Michael Coyne described the finished website as something that reflected the business and confirmed how pleased they were with the result.

We never had a website and nor were we interested in one but Denis and his team at Advanced solutions were able to put together a website which reflected what we do for a price we liked, and we are more than delighted with the package. 5 stars from us at Coyne's Gastropub and continued success in the future guys!

When the Original Booking Form Became Too Successful

The first version of the website included a straightforward online reservation enquiry form.

It gave customers something they had not previously had: a convenient way to request a table through the Coyne’s website.

Customers began using it quickly.

The original system relied on the team manually reviewing and confirming requests. As adoption increased, different customers could request the same table or booking time before an earlier enquiry had been processed.

Rather than being a failure of the website, it demonstrated that customers genuinely wanted an online reservation option.

That led to the next stage of the project.

A Complete Restaurant Booking System

We replaced the basic enquiry process with a dedicated restaurant reservation system designed around how Coyne’s actually manages its tables.

The system provides greater control over availability and helps reduce the possibility of overlapping requests.

Structured Table Availability
The booking process works around the restaurant’s configured availability rather than accepting unlimited requests for the same time.

Booking Rules
Restaurant-specific availability and booking conditions can be managed within the system.

Customer Information
Relevant booking and contact information is collected as part of the reservation journey.

Restaurant Management
The Coyne’s team has a clearer process for reviewing and managing reservations from the website.

Deposit Functionality
The booking setup can support the restaurant’s deposit requirements through its integrated payment workflow.

The result is a much more practical reservation process for both customers and the team managing bookings.

Bringing Event Ticket Sales Directly Onto the Website

The success of the website led to another business requirement.

Coyne’s regularly hosts intimate live concerts and events, including its Coyne’s Unplugged series. Tickets had previously been sold through Eventbrite.

The business was paying approximately 10% in associated Eventbrite platform fees on ticket sales.

We integrated event listings and direct online ticket purchasing into the Coyne’s website, allowing customers to discover an upcoming concert and purchase their ticket without leaving the venue’s own digital platform.

Direct Ticket Sales
Customers can purchase event tickets directly through the Coyne’s website.

Event Listings
Upcoming concerts can be promoted with event information and imagery in one dedicated area.

Reduced External Platform Costs
Moving sales in-house removed the approximately 10% Eventbrite platform fee Coyne’s had previously been paying.

More Control
Coyne’s retains greater control over the event journey rather than relying entirely on a third-party ticketing platform.

This turned the website into a direct revenue channel as well as a marketing platform.

Restaurant, Pantry and Online Sales in One Website

Coyne’s is more than a gastropub.

Its artisan pantry showcases locally made products from the Gaeltacht, including food, gifts and locally produced items.

The website gives this side of the business room to breathe, with dedicated pantry content alongside online product and gift voucher functionality.

This allows the website to represent Coyne’s as it actually operates, rather than reducing the business to a simple menu and booking page.

Events That Can Be Promoted Properly

Live music forms an important part of Coyne’s identity.

Instead of events disappearing quickly within social media feeds, the website provides a permanent place to present upcoming performances, share the important details and connect directly with ticket purchasing.

This is particularly useful for Coyne’s Unplugged, where capacity is deliberately limited and individual concerts can attract strong demand.

Designed for Visitors to Connemara

Location plays an important role in the website.

Coyne’s sits in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht along the Wild Atlantic Way, so many potential customers may be discovering the business while researching the area rather than already knowing the venue.

The website brings together directions, contact information, opening times, photographs, menus and other visitor information to help those customers plan their visit.

Responsive Restaurant Website Design

The website was built responsively so visitors can browse Coyne’s, check the menu, view events or make a reservation from mobile, tablet or desktop.

For hospitality businesses in particular, this matters because many customer decisions are made while travelling or searching for somewhere to eat on a mobile phone.

The website maintains the character of Coyne’s while keeping these practical customer journeys accessible on smaller screens.

A Website That Continued to Develop After Launch

One of the strongest aspects of the Coyne’s project is that we did not attempt to predict every future requirement at the beginning.

We created a flexible website first and then developed it around genuine customer behaviour.

The progression was natural:

Stage One: First Website
Coyne’s gained its first dedicated professional online presence.

Stage Two: Better Reservations
Strong use of the original booking form demonstrated the need for more advanced reservation management.

Stage Three: Direct Event Sales
Ticket sales were brought onto the website to give Coyne’s greater control and eliminate the previous Eventbrite platform fee.

This is a good example of why a business website should be able to evolve rather than remain exactly as it was on launch day.

The full journey is explored in our Coyne’s Gastropub website design case study.

More Than Just Getting a Business Online

Coyne’s demonstrates what can happen when a first website is built with room to evolve.

The initial goal was simply to give the business a professional digital home. Customer behaviour then showed where the website could deliver additional value.

Reservations became easier to manage. Events gained their own platform. Ticket sales moved directly onto the website. External ticketing costs were reduced.

What started as a restaurant website design project became a useful part of how Coyne’s operates.

Frequently Asked Questions

From No Website to a Platform Customers Use

Coyne’s Gastropub had built its reputation through great food, local customers, events and word of mouth, without ever having a dedicated business website. We created its first online presence around the character of the gastropub, its Connemara location, menu, artisan pantry and customer experience.

The project continued evolving after launch. Strong adoption of online reservations led us to implement a dedicated restaurant booking system, while event ticket sales were later brought directly onto the website, turning the original web design project into a practical platform used by the business every day.
